Dell shipping revamped Ubuntu 8.04 with the Mini 10

Dells been tweaking the Dell-designed user interface on the Linux version of the Mini 10. For those of you who have never seen the UI, the best way to explain it is that it is activity-based. The goal all along with the Ubuntu interface is to take the application out of the equation. Instead they are paving the way for people to interact with the Mini based on what they want to do – e.g. I want to browse the Internet, I want to look at pictures, I want to chat with my family, I want to play a game of Solitaire, etc.

With this new version Dell has gone through some real efforts to make Ubuntu 8.04 look all 2009ish and the all round experience more visually appealing.

For a more visual explanation, here's a short video from Doug Anson:

101th Post - And a Contest!

I can't believe that I've written over one hundred posts on this blog. I guess it just goes to show that there's a lot going on in the open-source, Linux and Ubuntu world. Today I did a Google search for Ubuntu cover and to my surprise my Hardy Heron DVD cover came up as one of the top results! Although I got some great feedback, I never would have expected something like that.

So, what has this got to do with the contest? Well, I've decided to give away a copy of Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS with my Hardy Heron DVD cover artwork.

How can I win? All you have to do, is send me an email describing what you like, dislike, love or hate about AnotherUbuntu.Blogspot.Com. Don't be afraid to give criticism as the winner will be randomly chosen (and not based on what he or she actually has written). The end on this competition will be announced on this blog.

I'm looking forward to some great feedback. Game on...

Seeing your contribution matter

It's always nice when people give you positive feedback on your work and contributions, but I guess one of the biggest gestures is when people actually use your work. This has been the case before, with the return of the Hardy Heron cover as we saw back in June, or the Ubuntu Wanted website layout.

This time, I'm proud to see my own artwork for the danish Ubuntu 8.10 Release Party being used. I wasn't attending the release party myself, but I found these pictures from the event.

Hardy Heron cover

I'm working on a cover for Hardy Heron. I've made a preview of the inlay and the booklet.
I wanted to create a non-geek version (Why Ubuntu 8.04 needs better marketing...) - maybe the back of the booklet should have more "geeky" information, like: kernel 2.6.24, Xorg 7.3 etc.

Please post feedback if you have any comments or suggestions - thanks.
