Creating Marketing Material

I've been working on a Danish leaflet/flyer/brochure for the Danish release party. I've used the Ubuntu Leaflet as base, and changed the colors to fit Karmic.

Here's the (original) Ubuntu Leaflet:

For the Karmic Koala release party we (the Danish Ubuntu community) will be doing something a little different. This time we want to try to reach out to people who have never heard of Ubuntu before.
On Saturday 14th November 2009, we’ll set up a handful of delicious laptops in the shopping mall Bruuns Galleri in Aarhus. By each table, one or two people from our group will demonstrate and talk about Ubuntu. We'll hand out free CDs and a Danish version of the Ubuntu leaflet for those who might be interested.
Afterwards we'll do something more relaxed, community minded and probability more geeky in cooperation with Østjyllands Linux-usergroup øjlug.

The text for the Danish leaflet has been translated, edited and written by members from the Danish community. To do this in the most effective way we created a wiki page for easy management. I'm planning to add this brochure to SpreadUbuntu.
Here's a preview of the Danish version (still only a draft):

Ubuntu Live! 9.04

This Saturday I attended the Danish LoCo teams Ubuntu 9.04 release party. People from the Danish forum, IRC, mailinglists and various other places attended. As always, there were many different sessions. To name a few: What is good support, What’s new in 9.04, What is UbuntuDanmark, Translations, and so on.
But, there’s were two sessions that I found particularly interesting; Bug triaging and Clever remote control of computers.

Søren Hansen, who works for Canonical as a visualization specialist on the Ubuntu server team, was asked to talk about Bug Triaging. Søren held a very enlightening talk. I never actually meet Søren before (though we only live 5 minutes walk from each other). He was very friendly and accommodating, and I really enjoyed his talk very much. Of course, I would have loved to hear him talk about his work for Canonical.
BTW, if you've watch his UDS interview or his hackergotchi this might be shocking news to you - Søren has cut off his ponytail!!

Anyway, back on a more serious track again. Mads Chr. Olesen talked about remote controlling computers in various ways. He mentioned VNC (Virtual Network Computing), SSH and MultiADM. Since I had no knowledge on this topic I also found this session very enlightening. MultiADM is Mads’s own project for managing and updating installations of various systems. Currently supported is Debian-based/Ubuntu systems, Typo3 (CMS) and Wordpress. The first release just made it to Launchpad this weekend!

Seeing your contribution matter

It's always nice when people give you positive feedback on your work and contributions, but I guess one of the biggest gestures is when people actually use your work. This has been the case before, with the return of the Hardy Heron cover as we saw back in June, or the Ubuntu Wanted website layout.

This time, I'm proud to see my own artwork for the danish Ubuntu 8.10 Release Party being used. I wasn't attending the release party myself, but I found these pictures from the event.

DIY release poster

I get a lot of emails from people asking me to upload the release party poster without any text. So if you are having your own release party, all you need to do is download the image below and add your text. Enjoy :-)

I should mention the image file is in CMYK colors, .TIF format and is 18,6 MB

Danish Ubuntu 8.10 Release Party artwork

Some of you may remember my post back in Marts "Danish Ubuntu 8.04 Release Party artwork". Ones again I've made a few suggestions for this Danish Ubuntu Release Party artwork. As always, there's no guarantee that the Danish LOCO team will use my work - but if they want to, they can.

I just realize now, that the 8.04 post doesn't have the final poster that got printed! Here it is:

Danish Ubuntu 8.04 Release Party artwork

I'm working on some posters for the danish Ubuntu 8.04 release party in Aarhus and I've made a few suggestions, that I want to share with you. I really hope that my artwork will be selected to promote the release party, but the decision is not mine to make.

And here is the first web banner for the release. I think it could work better if it was animated, I will be working on a new version using Flash.
